What you will do

  • Break high-impact news and consistently offer scoops through original reporting and insider knowledge.
  • Report and write at least six stories per month, balancing quick scoops and exclusives with longer, differentiated work.
  • Bring fresh, innovative ideas and sharp angles to industry coverage, placing news in broader context.
  • Work closely with the Executive Editor and the Senior Director to define and shape editorial strategy for the business desk.
  • Appear regularly as WIRED's authority on the business of tech in various media formats.
  • Lead collaboration with writers, editors, and the wider editorial team to shape multi-platform storytelling.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of experience as a business journalist with a track record of breaking news and building a large audience.
  • A proven track record of scoops and the ability to consistently break high-impact news.
  • Deep and extensive sourcing within the tech world and a keen understanding of how influence is brokered.
  • Cross-market and cultural understanding as to what stories resonate for WIRED audiences outside of the US.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, valuing originality and rigor in equal measure.
  • Proven ability to work well with others, across departments, both within and outside of WIRED.
