TL;DR

Manager, Database Engineering (Datacenter): Leading the transformation of physical datacenter infrastructure, consolidating legacy storage, and optimizing diverse hardware fleets with an accent on enterprise storage, networking, and hypervisor technologies. Focus on implementing standards, organization, and stability in complex environments, while managing and mentoring a small team of engineers.

Location: Hybrid role, 2–3 days onsite in the datacenter. Must be in the greater Austin Area and able to be onsite in our datacenter 2-3 days a week.

What you will do

  • Drive migration to a disciplined datacenter environment, consolidating NAS and vSAN storage onto enterprise storage and Juniper networking stack.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the colocation cage, ensuring high availability for internal testing, sales, and corporate environments.
  • Oversee diverse hardware assets, including VMWare servers, Mac clusters, and edge devices.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of engineers, serving as an escalation point for critical physical outages.
  • Balance stakeholder requests with system stability, researching and implementing new hypervisor technologies.
  • Manage hardware procurement and vendor relationships.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of implementing standards and stability in complex, unstructured environments.
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience with hands-on skills in VMWare (vSphere/ESXi), Enterprise Storage, and Networking (Juniper preferred).
  • 5+ years of leadership experience with hands-on capabilities.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new hypervisors and manage non-standard hardware.
  • Experience managing small teams or leading technical projects.
  • Reside within a commutable distance of North Central Austin and be willing to be onsite at the colo 2–3 days a week.
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.

Nice to have
