What you will do

  • Architect & Deliver: Design and implement distributed backend systems handling billions of monthly events.
  • Build scalable data pipelines using Kafka, ClickHouse, and Snowflake ensuring data quality and schema governance.
  • Optimize database performance across Aurora, Cloud SQL, and PostgreSQL for low latency and high availability.
  • Define and enforce engineering best practices including CI/CD automation, monitoring, and release management.
  • Lead and mentor engineers through architectural decisions and design reviews in an Agile environment.
  • Drive cloud architecture design on AWS and GCP focusing on scalability, cost efficiency, and security compliance.

Requirements

  • Must be located in or near Toronto, Canada with hybrid work model requiring office presence 4 days per week
  • 8+ years backend development experience with 3+ years in technical leadership or architecture roles.
  • Expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and data-intensive applications.
  • Proficiency in Node.js, Python, Go, or Java and experience with Kafka, ClickHouse, Snowflake, and relational databases.
  • Experience scaling systems on AWS or GCP cloud platforms.
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and problem-solving skills.
